GLOBALSTAR PROVIDES BOOST FOR SATELLITE DATA CUSTOMERS IN THE UNITED STATES
Company partners with OCENS to launch comprehensive suite of satellite data services for both maritime and land based customers
Globalstar, Inc., a world leader in providing mobile satellite voice and data services, announced today that it has partnered with software and communications company, OCENS, to launch a new comprehensive suite of data services. OCENS Mail, WeatherNet and GRIB Explorer products are now available to Globalstar subscribers in the United States, providing optimized email transfer speeds and important weather and ocean information services via the Globalstar satellite network.
OCENS Mail for Globalstar will provide satellite customers with the capability to transfer emails 20 times faster than when using standard email software. The program is optimized for the Globalstar network, offering virus scanning, filtering and mail forwarding services and works with existing email services such as Outlook Express. OCENS WeatherNet will provide customers with the capability to access some 20,000 weather related products including; weather charts, satellite imagery, sea surface temperature, sea surface height, currents and other ocean data, text reports and a vast collection of specialized gridded binary (GRIB) weather and ocean products through OCENS GRIB Explorer software.
“The OCENS suite for Globalstar features improved data compression rates with effective data transfer speeds of up to 38 kbps, bringing significant potential cost savings to our customers,” said Dennis Allen, Senior Vice President of US Sales and Marketing for Globalstar, Inc. Mr. Allen added, “Productivity in both land based and maritime segments may be enhanced by allowing important information and emails to be sent and received more rapidly. Now that we are in the midst of hurricane season, maritime users may also benefit from products designed to provide time critical weather information. Commercial fishing data available through the various services is also virtually unparalleled.”
Globalstar currently packages its satellite mobile and fixed units with free trial versions of each of the new OCENS products along with its standard Express Data compression tool.
