Top News Channel CNN Praises Inmarsat BGAN Solution
CNN - the global television news network - has praised Inmarsat's BGAN solution for enabling its broadcast teams to file live video reports from war zones.
Journalists at CNN believe BGAN terminals gave them a competitive advantage when they used them to file hundreds of live video reports during the recent conflict in Lebanon.
Tony Maddox, senior vice-president of news operations for CNN International, said: "We have successfully and consistently filed more live video over IP than any other news organisation and have established CNN as the leader in live reporting with BGAN technology.
"The use of BGAN gave CNN the added flexibility to move across and report from all over the region, giving the network a distinct reporting advantage.
"At the height of the hostilities, CNN had more than 100 journalists in the combat area - and BGAN was key for getting the news out to the rest of the world."
CNN's service provider GCS, based in New York, and Inmarsat distribution partner FTMSC, worked closely together to provide the broadcaster with a package of terminals and value-added services to enable it to become an enthusiastic user of BGAN. |
