HNS
9201 BGAN terminal gains Inmarsat type approval
The third in the range of highly portable and powerful
BGAN mobile satellite terminals, the HNS 9201, manufactured
by Hughes Network Systems, has been granted type approval
by Inmarsat.
The HNS 9201 is 'class one' approved, which means the
terminal is capable of delivering data speeds up to
492kbps. It can also provide streaming internet protocol
(IP) services up to 256 kbps on demand.
This BGAN device enables multiple users to make simultaneous
voice calls while sending and receiving internet protocol
(IP) packet and circuit-switched data, accessed via
USB, Ethernet, ISDN and WLAN interfaces.
The HNS 9201 - which measures 345 x 275mm and weighs
2.8kgs - is the highest bandwidth terminal in the range
and the only one to support WLAN connectivity.
It can be operated either by single users using bandwidth-hungry
applications - such as live video - or by small teams
that need to set up a temporary office with high-speed
connectivity to standard data applications.
The terminal is operated by plugging it into a phone
or laptop, pointing it towards the satellite and establishing
a connection.
It provides service anywhere within the BGAN coverage
area and its rugged design means it can be deployed
outside in extreme weather conditions for extended periods
of time.
