International Rescue Committee Utilizes Inmarsat BGAN for Relief Efforts
BGAN provides vital communications as International Rescue Committee (IRC) brings humanitarian aid to victims of war and violence around the world.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) - which helps people uprooted by war and violence all over the world - has chosen BGAN to maintain essential communications.
Inmarsat BGAN will enable the IRC emergency relief workers to direct aid, materials and assistance to the field quickly and more efficiently.
The IRC, a non-profit-making humanitarian agency, selected Inmarsat distribution partner Telenor Satellite Services to supply BGAN services and equipment.
It provides relief, rehabilitation, protection, resettlement services and advocacy for displaced persons, and the victims of oppression and violent conflict. Current IRC missions include help for refugees in strife-torn Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Darfur region of Sudan.
The IRC is geared to providing emergency assistance, such as water, food, shelter, sanitation and medical care, when people are driven from their homes.
Morten Tengs, chief executive officer of Telenor Satellite Services, said: "Telenor is committed to provide the IRC the 'best value' for money. We are delighted that it has selected us for its global BGAN and R-BGAN equipment and services.
"Our communications package of equipment, services and value-added services will be an essential tool."
