Thuraya Launches Satellite Services in Algeria
Thuraya,
has launched its satellite telecommunication services
in Algeria through a new strategic tie-up with a leading
local mobile distributor. The new partnership aims to
market and provide Thuraya's satellite communication
solutions throughout Algeria, which is geographically
one of the largest countries in the Middle East &
North African (MENA) region.
The
inauguration program included a comprehensive display
of Thuraya's products and services to a selected group
of prospective government and private-sector customers,
followed by a presentation on their planned marketing
and distribution strategies of Thuraya services throughout
Algeria.
Currently
connecting the world's largest base of mobile satellite
subscribers, Thuraya will complement the domestic telecom
network by extending its satellite-based mobile, fixed,
data and rural telephony solutions to all remote areas
and villages in Algeria.
“Algeria is one of our core regional
markets and one with which we want to work closely,”
said Thuraya's CEO Mr. Al Sayed, elaborating that such
commitment is signaled by the Company's exerted efforts
to obtain a commercial operation license from the Algerian
telecom regulatory authority “ARPT”, which
has successfully been achieved.
Mr. Al Sayed said that Thuraya's capability
to adapt to the region's differing needs and offer innovative
solutions has been its key strength since the beginning.
“We are committed to this strategy and pursuing
it consistently,” he emphasized.
“With
our expanding products portfolio and established country-wide
market access, we are making a strategic fit to adequately
serve the local telecommunications market and various
economic and social sectors in Algeria,” added
Mr. Al Sayed.
“We
are a country with a huge landmass, and it is increasingly
crucial for public and private sector institutions as
well as people in all parts of the country to have a
means of communication wherever they go,” he said.
At
this initial stage, they will market and distribute
Thuraya's mobile services and related products and accessories.
It is also expected that Thuraya's fixed, data, rural
telephony and maritime services will be launched in
Algeria in the near future.
Thuraya
provides cost-effective satellite-based communication
solutions in urban centres, as well as remote areas
and villages and seas beyond terrestrial telecom networks.
It has nearly 100 national and international Service
Providers (SPs) located across its coverage area that
spans Europe, North and Central Africa, Middle East,
Central Asia and the Indian Subcontinent.
